Gov. Nikki Haley has signed South Carolina's breast density notification bill into law, making the state the 27th in the U.S. to enact such legislation.
"Hope's Law" (S 339) requires radiologists to provide written summaries of mammograms, including breast density, to patients. It is named after former Columbia, SC, resident Hope Gelting, who died in 2014 after being diagnosed with advanced-stage breast cancer, despite regular mammography screenings, according to patient advocacy group Are You Dense Advocacy.
