The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on February 11 announced that it had reinstated accreditation for a facility in Raleigh, NC, that had experienced mammography technical quality issues.
The FDA temporarily suspended mammography services at Raleigh Radiology Blue Ridge in December following an assessment of the facility by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Raleigh Radiology said the suspension was due to the technical quality of images in a small number of mammography cases.
The facility was required to implement a corrective plan and notify all at-risk patients about the mammography quality problems, according to the new FDA adverse event and action report. The FDA has since reissued a Mammography Quality Standards Act (MSQA) certificate, and Raleigh Radiology Blue Ridge is once again performing mammography.
