Dear Advanced Visualization Insider,
The use of advanced 3D visualization tools such as multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) and maximum intensity projection (MIP) have become nearly ubiquitous, according to a survey presented at the 2006 RSNA meeting in Chicago.
In fact, 3D has become so widespread that it should be seen as part of the routine interpretation process, according to Dr. Krishna Juluru of the VA Maryland Health Care System in Baltimore.
Among the survey findings: 96.2% of radiologist and 92.3% of cardiologist respondents are currently employing multiplanar or 3D reformatting. The study team also judged that there is an increasing need for a PACS that can generate 3D and multiplanar images as part of the routine interpretation process.
