Advanced visualization developer TeraRecon and telecommunications firm KDDI have launched a cloud-based, real-time 3D imaging package in Japan.
Available as of August 3, the service combines TeraRecon's 3D medical technology with KDDI's cloud platform to offer real-time medical image processing and viewing capabilities for Japanese institutions, according to the vendor. Customers will be able to have real-time processing equivalent to that of an onsite server, the companies said.
The service enables 3D medical images to be viewed and processed on a variety of devices, including personal computers, tablets, and smartphones, TeraRecon and KDDI said. The use of a cloud platform significantly reduces the workload that medical institutions need to undertake for system operation and maintenance, according to the companies.
Prior to its launch, the service was piloted for a four-month period beginning in December 2011 by radiologists at Saiseikai Kawaguchi General Hospital. Data for approximately 2,000 3D medical images were sent to KDDI's cloud for analysis and processing.
