Philips Healthcare and Accenture are collaborating to develop ways of utilizing the Google Glass head-mounted display during surgical procedures.
The companies have created a proof-of-concept demonstration that connects Google Glass to Philips' IntelliVue products to transfer patient vital signs into Google Glass. This could potentially give physicians hands-free access to critical clinical information without them having to turn away from the patient or procedure, according to the companies.
Researchers from Philips' newly created Digital Accelerator Lab, which has labs based in the Netherlands and India, collaborated with researchers from Accenture Technology Labs to explore the potential use of Google Glass in clinical settings. The companies will now investigate additional opportunities to integrate Google Glass with other Philips healthcare technology, including possibly adding the ability for clinicians to call up images and other patient data from anywhere in the hospital, the companies said.
