3D medical printing technology is taking center stage at this week's Arab Health 2017, thanks to coordination between conference organizers and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
At Arab Health 2017 this week in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the 3D Medical Printing Zone has the theme of Fast Forward 2030 and will feature new 3D printing technologies, hands-on workshops, and a conference with regional and international speakers, according to the DHA and Arab Health. The event will be held in collaboration with the DHA and global 3D medical printing companies.
Attendees will be able to experience and learn from live 3D printing of hard and soft tissue for dissection during hands-on-training sessions, among other activities. They can also watch surgical experts use 3D-printed tissue in advanced surgical procedures, according to the organizations.
Another new session in the hands-on-training area will feature heart valve replacement using virtual reality goggles. This session, led by Dr. Rafael Guerrero from the Alder Hey Children's Hospital in the U.K., will create 3D-printed soft-tissue replicas based on a patient's cardiac MRI scan. A surgeon will then perform a heart valve replacement procedure on an operating room surgical practice dummy using the 3D-printed heart. The surgeon will wear virtual reality goggles for an immersive teaching experience that will be streamed to a live audience of regional healthcare specialists, according to Arab Health and the DHA.
The government of Dubai aims to become an international leader in 3D medical printing by 2021.
