Onrad, ImmersiveTouch join forces on virtual reality

Teleradiology services provider Onrad has partnered with surgical planning software developer ImmersiveTouch on a virtual reality (VR) system that will enable physicians to interact more fully with 3D images.

ImmersiveTouch has developed a software suite that rapidly transforms CT and MR images into high-resolution VR models useful for planning surgeries more accurately.

The software suite helps physicians fully explore and understand their patients in 3D, pixel by pixel -- rather than being limited to certain angles of view, they are able to easily view anatomy from all angles, "as it exists in reality," according to the companies.

Onrad sees the surgical planning tie-up as a good way to expand the use of medical imaging in new areas of patient care through physician alliances.

The software suite is HIPAA-compliant, fully compatible with all PACS and DICOM systems and may be used with any VR headset. The companies are showing the system at RSNA 2018 in Chicago.
