GE signs biopsy pact with Ethicon

Multimodality vendor GE Healthcare has teamed up with interventional device firm Ethicon Endo-Surgery to offer an integrated ultrasound-guided breast biopsy package that combines products from both companies.

GE of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., and Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary based in Cincinnati, will offer Ethicon's Mammotome EX breast biopsy system packaged with GE's Logiq Book XP compact ultrasound scanner. Clinicians using the combined products will be able to offer patients shorter breast biopsy procedures at almost any location in the healthcare enterprise, according to the companies.

GE and Ethicon will provide in-house training to some 10,000 surgeons who currently have limited access to ultrasound imaging and minimally invasive biopsy technology.
