Intact Medical of Natick, MA, said that it has been awarded a U.S. patent for technology related to its Intact Breast Lesion Excision System.

The product is a vacuum-assisted, image-guided biopsy device.

Patent number 7,041,101 involves proprietary technology for interstitially located electrosurgical cutting, while protecting healthy tissue from collateral thermal trauma, as well as preventing thermal damage to any target tissue specimen to be retrieved for biopsy, according to the firm.
