Radiation oncology vendor Varian Medical Systems reported that it has shipped more than 250 of its On-Board Imager (OBI) devices for image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) since the product's introduction in 2004.
The technology provides three imaging modalities (CT, x-ray, and fluoroscopy) to pinpoint the location of targeted tumors prior to treatment; note any changes in tumor size, shape, or position; and track tumor motion, according to Palo Alto, CA-based Varian.
The company said that more than 60% of its orders for new treatment machines include the OBI accessory.
