MRI-guided interventional technology developer SurgiVision and image-guided therapy firm Brainlab are collaborating on MRI-guided drug delivery and other neurosurgical interventional MRI technologies.
Under the partnership, SurgiVision's ClearPoint product line will be integrated with Brainlab's iMRI offerings. ClearPoint provides guidance for placing and operating instruments during neurological procedures performed within the MRI environment, while iMRI integrates intraoperative MRI with surgical planning and ceiling-mounted navigation, according to the firms.
The companies believe the technology integration will allow for patient-specific treatment planning, simplified clinical workflows, and optimal drug delivery to the brain.
Brainlab will also sell ClearPoint products in the neurological drug delivery field, and the company has invested in SurgiVision. SurgiVision will continue to sell ClearPoint directly for all applications outside of neurological drug delivery.
In other SurgiVision news, the company has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its SmartFlow neuro ventricular cannula, an MRI-compatible injection and aspiration cannula for use in the brain. SmartFlow is compatible with ClearPoint.
