Image-guided therapy firm Brainlab has launched the Right Brain Foundation, which aims to provide medical technology and education to selected hospitals and public institutions in Southeast Asia, Africa, Central America, and South America.
The Right Brain Foundation will partner with hospitals and physicians in North America and Europe, building an exchange program to help teach physicians in developing countries how to effectively use its Kick Purely Navigation compact image-guided surgery system. In addition, Brainlab employees will volunteer their vacation time to the foundation to provide additional onsite training and support to the local hospitals, the company said.
Brainlab said it selected developing countries based on criteria such as per-capita income, a reliable energy supply, and adequately trained healthcare professionals, while keeping in mind the distribution of wealth, political stability, and safety of the country, as well as where patients may be able to benefit the most.
