IBM and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, have partnered on the utilization of parallel computer architecture and memory bandwidth to increase the processing speed of 3D medical images, according to the Armonk, NY-based vendor.
The firm said that through porting and optimization of the Mayo Clinic's image registration application on its BladeCenter QS20 "Cell Blade," the application produced image results 50 times faster than it did running on a traditional processor configuration.
