Image display and advanced visualization software developer Barco said it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for the latest version of its Voxar 3D advanced visualization software suite. The suite includes Voxar 3D ColonMetrix for virtual colonoscopy (VC or CT colonography [CTC]) applications and Voxar 3D PET/CT Fusion for interpretation of whole-body FDG studies.
The Kortrijk, Belgium-based firm also launched a new PACS color display system.

Version 6.3 of the Voxar 3D suite enhances digital imaging workflow with full PACS integration, enabling radiologists to increase efficiency and report studies faster, Barco said. The package includes 3D ColonMetrix software, which offers GPU-accelerated automatic centerline finding to enable users to fly through prone and supine colon images smoothly and rapidly. Most studies can be completed in about 10 minutes. An integrated gravity function keeps the camera position aligned with the scanner table to facilitate spatial understanding, Barco said.
The 3D PET/CT fusion software enables efficient fusion of anatomical and functional data with real-time interpretation, Barco said. The software also offers automated workflow for hotspot triangulation and calculation, display of standard uptake values, and a sophisticated attenuation correction algorithm that compensates for intensity differences between structures deep in the body and those close to the surface, according to the firm.
For both packages, a "saved state" feature allows users to save a case and return later to read it where they left off.
3MP PACS display
Barco announced its new 3 megapixel offering as a cost-effective color display system that adds more choice to the firm's portfolio of PACS display products, including its Nio and Coronis lines.
The Nio Color 3MP system is based on LCD technology, guaranteeing excellent brightness and contrast, Barco said. The PCI Express controller delivers fast download speeds and optimized 3D operations through OpenGL and Microsoft DirectX. The Medical QA Web feature provides automated DICOM calibration, quality assurance, display asset management, problem solving, and reporting. Calibration and QA settings can be changed remotely, Barco said.
