Computer-aided detection software developer Riverain Technologies has received two new patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
One patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,204,292) is for Riverain's methodology to selectively remove unwanted objects or features within images, the company said. This technology is used in its ClearRead bone suppression software, which suppresses the ribs and clavicles in a chest x-ray image, resulting in a soft-tissue image of the chest. This functionality provides radiologists with a clearer, unobstructed view of the chest to aid in early detection of lung disease, Riverain said.
The other patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,160,335) is for Riverain's proprietary computer-aided diagnosis methodology on software- or hardware-derived images, such as dual-energy subtracted soft-tissue images and/or bone-suppressed images. This technology is used in Riverain's ClearRead +Detect software, an application that identifies and circles potentially cancerous lung nodules on images.
The two patents now bring the company's portfolio to a total of 15 issued or pending patents.
