An outpatient imaging center was part of a data breach disclosed August 12 by Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, that impacted 464,088 patients.
In a statement, the health system said the information involved may have included names, dates of birth, social security numbers, medical record numbers, medical treatment and condition information, medical diagnoses, and health insurance information.
“To date, Kootenai Health is not aware of any attempt to misuse any information potentially involved in this incident,” the health system said.
Kootenai Health said it became aware of unusual activity that disrupted access to certain IT systems on March 2 and that a subsequent investigation revealed that an unauthorized individual may have gained access to the data on or around February 22. The number of individuals potentially impacted was disclosed in a notification letter the health system filed with the office of the Maine Attorney General.
