If you've been missing from the PACS market for a few years, you'll likely be shocked to discover at this month's RSNA meeting how quickly the old CRT standby has been discarded in favor of the omnipresent LCDs of today.
It hasn't been that long since the CRT versus LCD battle was a hot topic of discussion in the industry, but LCDs have clearly won the market over. The domination of LCDs will be evident at McCormick Place in Chicago, where display providers will feature a bevy of new LCDs, aimed at a variety of applications.
Display vendors are clearly directing development resources toward meeting clinical needs, and the results will be on display for RSNA attendees. Several firms are demonstrating extra-wide displays, allowing for easier image comparison and more screen real estate to present multiple exams.
In line with overall PACS market activity toward digital mammography applications, a number of firms will discuss the utility of their displays for digital mammography reading. Several firms will also present technology aimed at maximizing the value of 3D imaging studies.
