A 4-megapixel wide-screen display highlights a group of new Planar introductions.

The company will highlight E4c, a 4-megapixel wide-screen display targeted for diagnostic viewing in PACS workstations and modality review applications. E4c, a bezel-less, 30-inch display with a wide-screen 16:9 format, eliminates image split and affords more screen to show multiple images, according to the Waltham, MA-based vendor.

The display can show 15 full-size 512 x 512 images simultaneously, and it offers 1,786 unique shades of gray, 330 cd/m² typical brightness, a 600:1 contrast ratio, and automatic DICOM calibration.

A broad color spectrum enables users to visualize various color modalities, 2D color imaging, image fusion, and 3D reconstruction, according to the firm. E4c is appropriate for radiology, cardiology, PET/CT, dermatology, and OR applications. Planar plans to begin shipping the display in early 2006.

The company will also debut E3c, a 3-megapixel, high-brightness display for color or monochrome imaging. E3c offers 1,786 unique shades of gray, 400 cd/m² typical brightness, a 400:1 contrast ratio, and automatic DICOM calibration. Designed for similar application as E4c, E3c is also expected to begin shipping in early 2006.

Another new product, E2c, is suitable for diagnostic viewing on PACS workstations, modality review, and multispecialty clinical areas such as the OR, ER, and ICU, Planar said. It offers 1,786 unique shades of gray, 500 cd/m² typical brightness, a 600:1 contrast ratio, and automatic DICOM calibration. Release is expected in early 2006.

Planar will also introduce E2, a 2-megapixel display for CT and MR applications. E2 provides 3,061 unique shades of gray, a 600:1 contrast ratio, 900 cd/m² operating brightness, and automatic DICOM calibration. E2 will be available in December.

E5 is a new grayscale display that can handle all diagnostic applications, including mammography and radiology, in both portrait and landscape modes, Planar said. It yields 3,061 unique shades of gray, a 600:1 contrast ratio, 850 cd/m² operating brightness, and automatic DICOM calibration. Its release is expected in early 2006.

Finally, Planar will show its E3 grayscale display, intended for CT, MR, CR, and DR in diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine, in both landscape and portrait modes. Available now, E3 offers 3,061 unique shades of gray, a 700:1 contrast ratio, 800 cd/m² operating brightness, and automatic DICOM calibration.
