Cerner, Shared Health partner on CHR

Healthcare information systems provider Cerner of Kansas City, MO, and Shared Health, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, have partnered to create a community health record (CHR) that will connect healthcare organizations in Tennessee, the firms said.

The Shared Health CHR product, Community Connection, will permit different healthcare providers treating the same person to view aggregated visit, medication, laboratory, and immunization claims information from multiple sources through a secure Web site, Cerner said.

Community Connection began as a pilot program at four sites in the state: a rural emergency department; a rural primary care practice; a metropolitan primary care practice; and an urban, school-based well-child screening practice, the company said.

The goal is to offer Community Connection to all participants of TennCare, as well as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee's commercial and private health plan clients beginning this summer, according to Cerner. In 2006, the program will be made available to Medicare participants, the vendor said.
