The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) of Bethesda, MD, said that it has formed a program called 10x10. The group hopes to train 10,000 healthcare professionals in applied health and medical informatics by the year 2010.
The AMIA will utilize curricular content from existing informatics training programs and other AMIA educational initiatives. This content will provide a framework in informatics, and include details in the areas of electronic and personal health records, health information exchange, standards and terminology, and healthcare quality and error prevention.
The 10x10 program will work within three major domains in the field of informatics: clinical or healthcare (including personal health management); public health; and translational bioinformatics.
The ideal student for its program possesses an educational background in the health sciences, including work experience, and seeks to acquire new skills related to health informatics, the association said.
More information on the 10x10 program is available on the AMIA Web site.
