Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) has forged a partnership with that state to conduct a joint inventory effort of Michigan's current and planned medical information technology. The Detroit-based payor will head the study and provide its funding with the support of the Michigan State Medical Society, the Michigan Osteopathic Association, and the Michigan Health and Hospital Association -- which make up the Partnership for Michigan's Health.
The study will build on similar research conducted by Ann Arbor, MI-based CyberMichigan, which outlined a Michigan Health Information Network plan in January of this year. BCBSM and its partners hope to streamline and integrate Michigan's medical information systems to most effectively provide patient care and to realize cost efficiencies.
