The board of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) of Chicago has announced new officers of its board of directors.
Dr. Blackford Middleton and June Lowe began their terms as chair and vice chair, respectively. They replace chair Pamela Wirth and vice chair Detlev Smaltz, Ph.D. Dr. Middleton is the corporate director of clinical informatics research and development at Partners Healthcare System in Boston, and the chairman of the Center for Information Technology Leadership (CITL). Vice chair Lowe is a clinical assurance consultant for McKesson Provider Technologies in Alpharetta, GA.
In recent elections by the board, George Hickman has been selected chair elect and Marion Ball, Ed.D., has been selected vice chair elect. They will assume these roles at the beginning of July 2006, HIMSS said. Hickman is the senior vice president and chief information officer at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, and Ball is the vice president, clinical informatics strategies at Healthlink in Baltimore.
