Crescendo Systems

Crescendo announced that it will showcase a new front-end speech recognition module for its MD Center-XL application at the 2006 RSNA show this month in Chicago.

MD Center-XL, powered by SpeechMagic from Philips Speech Processing of Vienna, Austria, allows radiologists to oversee the entire documentation workflow, from dictation and correction to sign-off and final report distribution, using a single interface, according to the Laval, Quebec-based firm.

The product's front-end speech recognition method allows healthcare facilities to leave document creation options open: switching from back-end to front-end recognition may compensate for transcription resource shortage or periodic peaks of activity, Crescendo said. This allows practices to have short reports reviewed by a radiologist in foreground mode, while more complex and detailed work can be routed to transcription for correction as a standard or on the fly.

Authors can dictate, review, and correct recognized text returned from the speech recognition server, perform synchronized playback, and sign off dictations and reports from a single application, according to the firm. It allows dictation from a multitude of input devices such as handheld digital recorders, telephones, pocket PC-based devices, and PC microphones.

The front-end speech recognition module supports Citrix Presentation Server 3.0 and higher, as well as thin-client terminals such as Wyse Windows Terminals, the company said.
