Philips unveils Wi-Fi asset tracker for healthcare

Philips Medical Systems has released a radiofrequency ID (RFID) system for tracking and locating hospital assets.

The MobileView system, which uses Wi-Fi technology developed by AeroScout of San Mateo, CA, is designed to utilize a hospital's existing 802.11 wireless infrastructure. This allows facilities to leverage investments they may have already made in wireless technology, according to the Andover, MA-based Philips.

The product is made up of wireless tags, a location engine, and the MobileView user interface, Philips said.
