Nuance Communications

(Booth 2117) Through its Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions division, Nuance Communications of Burlington, MA, will unveil Dictaphone PowerScribe Workstation 5.0 in Chicago.

The updated speech recognition and reporting technology will feature speech engine upgrades; system architecture enhancements; a redesigned user interface; enhanced, patent-pending critical alert technology to improve high-priority communication; and infrastructure upgrades to support multiple RIS networks.

PowerScribe 5.0 is designed to give radiologists more control of their reports to speed the dictation process, enhance accuracy, reduce report turnaround time, and lower transcription costs.

Also look for Nuance to talk up several recent and pending corporate acquisitions. In October, the company bought Commissure, a New York City-based developer of speech-enabled radiology workflow optimization and data analysis technology.

Just two weeks later, Nuance again made news with the announcement that it had signed a deal to buy Vocada, a Dallas firm that develops critical test result management (CTRM) software. Earlier in 2007, Nuance bought Focus Informatics, a Woburn, MA, provider of speech recognition editing services.
