Speech recognition and transcription technology provider MedQuist of Mount Laurel, NJ, has completed its acquisition of the U.S. business of Spheris of Franklin, TN.
At the same time, MedQuist's majority shareholder CBay of Annapolis, MD, has acquired the stock of Spheris India, a subsidiary of Spheris.
The transaction includes $98.8 million in cash and an unsecured subordinated promissory note issued by MedQuist Transcriptions for $17.5 million.
The combined companies will offer clinical documentation and electronic health record technology and products worldwide.
