Siemens taps Glaser as CEO of Health IT

Siemens Healthcare of Malvern, PA, has appointed John Glaser, PhD, as CEO of the company's Health Services business unit.

Glaser will lead Siemens' global healthcare IT business, including product development, strategy, portfolio management, financial performance, and overall customer satisfaction.

He most recently served as advisor to David Blumenthal, MD, the national coordinator for healthcare IT, providing counsel to the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator and the Department of Health and Human Services on the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) portions of the federal government's stimulus bill as it relates to adopting electronic medical records.

Since 1995, Glaser has served as vice president and chief information officer of Partners HealthCare in Boston, founding chair of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME), and past president of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
