He served for six years as chairman of the board of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) of Ottawa, an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides essential data and analysis on Canada's health system and its citizens.

Brian Postl, MD, dean of medicine at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, has been appointed to replace Scott at CIHI. Postl is also board chair of the Manitoba Health Research Council and Canadian Health Services Research Foundation in Ottawa.
