Canada Health Infoway has announced that two more academic medical centers in Ontario have connected to the Northern and Eastern Ontario Diagnostic Imaging Network (NEODIN).
Bruyère Continuing Care, with outpatient clinics and two hospitals located in Ottawa, and Hôpital Monfort in Monfort, Ontario, are now sending diagnostic images and reports to NEODIN’s electronic data repository. NEODIN, one of four diagnostic imaging repositories in Ontario receiving funding from Canada Health Infoway, will ultimately connect more than 60 diagnostic imaging departments serving almost 2 million people.
In August, Brockville General Hospital in Brockville became a partner of the Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Repository Services (HDIRS), a centralized data storage archive for 23 member hospitals located from Brockville to Toronto in the central, south, and southeastern areas of the province. This repository currently handles more than 2 million exams and reports added and accessed by its member hospitals each year.
By 2011, HDIRS is expected to serve up to 35 organizations providing healthcare to more than 3.4 million people representing 10% of Canada's population, according to Infoway. Infoway is an independent, not-for-profit organization funded by the federal government that jointly invests with Canadian provinces and territories to accelerate the development and adoption of electronic health record projects in the country.
