HHS announces $30M health IT center grants

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on September 2 that it has selected Greater Cincinnati HealthBridge in Ohio and Southeastern Michigan Health Association in Detroit as the final new "Beacon Communities."

These two organizations will receive funding to demonstrate how health IT can improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare for communities and individuals. They join 15 other projects that were announced in May.

Greater Cincinnati HealthBridge will receive $13.8 million over a three-year period, and the Southeastern Michigan Health Association will receive $16.2 million.

More than 100 healthcare organizations applied for the two remaining project grants, according to David Blumenthal, MD, national coordinator for health information technology.
