Philips to acquire Brazilian CIS firm

Royal Philips Electronics, the parent company of Philips Healthcare of Andover, MA, has signed an agreement to acquire Wheb Sistemas, a leading Brazilian provider of clinical information systems (CIS).

Founded in 1997, Wheb, headquartered in Blumenau, has approximately 190 employees and has installations in more than 230 hospitals.

The transaction is part of Philips Healthcare's strategy to expand its clinical informatics portfolio to different markets around the world.

The deal would follow Philips' March acquisition of Brazilian RIS company Tecso Informatica, and last month's agreement to acquire the business of CDP Medical, an Israel-based provider of PACS.
