Business analytics software and services company SAS of Cary, NC, and GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., announced they will collaborate to reduce medical errors and improve the quality of patient care.
The companies have entered into a joint development and marketing agreement by which GE Healthcare will leverage technology from SAS to analyze and deliver relevant, detailed patient safety information to help hospitals address preventable adverse medical events.
Applying SAS Analytics technology will enable GE's Patient Safety Organization to mine data and provide critical insights, best practices, and benchmarking to make changes at hospitals and other healthcare institutions. The SAS technology will help identify root causes of risk for GE Healthcare member hospitals.
The hospitals will collect and report adverse event data through a single Web-based reporting system. After patient information is analyzed and deidentified, it will be made available to other members of the organization to help them identify similar risks, and to enable them to make changes to prevent similar adverse events from occurring at their hospitals.
