KLAS: Speech recognition is a good investment

Investing in a speech recognition dictation system produces a demonstrable return on investment, according to a new study from healthcare technology research firm KLAS.

The study represents the opinions of 355 healthcare providers who use both back-end and front-end speech recognition technology. Users of front-end systems do their own self-correction, whereas users of back-end systems send dictated reports to editors for review before they are signed off.

The benefits cited by study participants included faster report turnaround times, increased physician satisfaction, improvements in clinical documentation, and staff reductions.

Because fewer than 25% of U.S. hospitals use speech recognition systems, this market has potential for healthy growth, according to KLAS.
