The National Institutes of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is holding a mobile health research workshop from June 20 to 24 in San Diego.
The mHealth Summer Institute is intended to provide early career investigators with an opportunity to learn about mHealth research with mentorship from leaders in the fields of engineering, medicine, and the behavioral and social sciences.
Participants in the week-long summer institute will receive instruction on the engineering, behavioral, and clinical science behind mobile-health technology, and they will work to develop potential mHealth research projects.
Mobile technologies such as smartphone diagnostic and imaging applications, electronic health records, and wireless home-use medical devices could help reduce costs and errors, remove geographic and economic disparities, and personalize healthcare, according to a NIBIB spokesperson.
Applicants for the program must hold a doctoral-level degree or a terminal master's degree in engineering. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to use the training they receive for research on health programs. The mHealth Summer Institute is free of charge, including room and board as well as travel expenses within the U.S.
The application deadline is midnight on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Details are available here.
