Canada Health Infoway has established an emerging technology group, to be led by its chief technology officer, Dennis Giokas.
Infoway's new division will be responsible for identifying and guiding the use of new information and communication technologies in healthcare. Giokas and his staff are tasked with finding emerging and mature technologies that could contribute to cost-effective solutions, such as helping to reduce patient wait times, improving the efficiency of physician hospital order entry, and managing chronic diseases.
Infoway, with headquarters in Montreal, is a not-for-profit organization that collaborates with Canada's provincial governments and territories, healthcare providers, and technology providers to accelerate the use of electronic health records in Canada.
More than 50% of Canadians currently have an electronic health record available for physician use, according to Richard Alvarez, Infoway's president and CEO.
