VA, Dept. of Defense name EHR director

Barclay Butler, PhD, has been appointed as director of the Interagency Program Office of the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

In this capacity, he will head the development and implementation of integrated electronic health record (iEHR) and virtual lifetime electronic record (VLER) systems, allowing for interoperability of EHR information between the two agencies.

Butler has more than 30 years of experience as a health information solutions professional, according to Acting Under Secretary of Defense Jo Ann Rooney's February 27 announcement.
