The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health has budgeted $5.8 million (Canadian) over a five-year period to provide high-speed broadband communication services to 83 First Nations health centers in the province.
The health agency will partner with telecommunications company SaskTel and the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations. SaskTel will begin installing fiber cables in the health facilities this year, with completion expected in 2014.
The high-speed broadband service will allow the healthcare facilities to add community-level e-health services and to connect with other hospitals and healthcare facilities in Saskatchewan.
