Healthcare software developer ScriptSender has debuted a new software suite intended to improve communication between physicians using different electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Featuring its flagship ScriptSender online order delivery module and ReportSender results delivery tool for referring physicians, the suite is designed to enable physicians and practices to send and receive orders and results from their own EMR software without having to use interfaces, according to the vendor. While the suite can be used with multiple specialties, radiology is a target market, ScriptSender said.
ScriptSender securely sends information such as physician orders, labs, or insurance work directly from a referring physician's own EMR to another group's system, provided that they have installed a ScriptSender application server. ReportSender sends medical, diagnostic, and consultative results back to the referring physician or practice. It integrates with any electronic health record, EMR, PACS, or RIS, ScriptSender said.
The suite is particularly suited for physicians and practices where an HL7 order interface and a virtual private network aren't present or cost-effective, or where integration may not be allowed due to technology protocols that prohibit physicians from installing software or configuring computers in their practice, ScriptSender said.
An optional database or HL7 module will enable ScriptSender to analyze each submission for a match to a known EMR configuration; after a match is found, ScriptSender can then create an order directly in the EMR's database or write an HL7 file to import into the EMR, the vendor said.
