The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched an interactive web-based survey to provide guidance to developers of mobile health apps in terms of the federal laws and regulations that might apply to their apps.
Developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the survey asks developers a series of high-level questions about the nature of their apps, including function, the data they collect, and the service they provide to users, according to the FTC.
Based on answers to the survey, developers will then be directed toward detailed information about certain federal laws that might apply to their app, such as the FTC Act, the FTC's Health Breach Notification Rule, HIPAA, and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
The survey can be found here.
