GE Healthcare is planning to move "hundreds" of workers from the suburban Chicago location of Barrington, IL, to its recently opened headquarters in the downtown area of the city.
Published reports indicate that GE is moving jobs that include software engineers, developers, data scientists, product managers, and other positions to the Chicago office at 500 W. Monroe St. GE Healthcare last year announced it was moving its international headquarters from the U.K. to the Chicago location, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.
The article said the move would bring to 1,000 the number of employees in the downtown Chicago location. The move is being made because GE Healthcare wants to be closer to Chicago's "health ecosystem" of universities, start-ups, and other players, enabling the company to advance its GE Health Cloud platform.
No jobs would be eliminated as part of the move, which will begin in the third quarter of 2017, according to the article.
