Clinical decision-support software developer National Decision Support Company (NDSC) has incorporated new appropriate use criteria (AUC) for pediatric imaging produced by the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The SPR and ACR collaborated to develop new pediatric criteria for delivery through NDSC's ACR Select software, according to NDSC. After reviewing each ACR Select topic to incorporate age- and gender-specific recommendations, a team of 30 SPR experts led by Dr. Marta Hernanz-Schulman of Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt developed -- with guidance from ACR Rapid Response Team Chair Dr. Mike Bettmann -- over 374 pediatric-specific indications and 376 exams that cover 2,912 clinical end points for pediatric imaging.
These AUC consider patient age and exposure to ionizing radiation; the pediatric age range varies on different topics where alternative recommendations are made, NDSC said. When delivered via NDSC's CareSelect Imaging platform, the new indications now address the clinical setting, patient age, and gender in providing the relevant guidance for the patient, according to the company.
NDSC said the pediatric AUC will be included with all future ACR Select content versions at no additional charge.
