Healthcare facilities in the U.S. have not completely escaped infection by the WannaCry ransomware attack, which was launched worldwide on May 12.
Medical devices from companies such as Bayer and Siemens Healthineers have been affected at a number of U.S. institutions, according to a report published May 17 in Forbes.
Two customers of Bayer's Medrad devices have been infected by WannaCry, according to the article. A Bayer spokesperson told Forbes it would be sending out a patch soon for its Windows-based devices, and the company recommended that hospitals work with their IT security teams and contact Bayer's technical assistance center.
For its part, Siemens has issued a security bulletin and said some of its customers may be facing effects from the virus. It also issued security advisories for its Magnetom MRI systems, its Somatom CT scanners, its Multi-Modality Workplace software, and select radiography, mobile x-ray, and mammography products. It is also developing patches or remediation solutions, according to the Forbes article.
