The RSNA and Carequality have released a guide supplement covering technical standards for the exchange of medical images through existing and emerging health information exchange networks.
Carequality's Healtheway initiative aims to support interoperability and real-time data transfer between various health information exchange networks. Physicians exchange roughly 80 million patient documents per month under the organization's current interoperability framework.
The new imaging data exchange implementation guide supplement is designed to expand this network-based access to medical imaging data and make it more readily available to patients, largely replacing the traditional method of sharing medical images via CDs and DVDs. The RSNA and Carequality introduced the guide supplement on December 2 at RSNA 2019.
Cloud-based software company Ambra Health, medical image-sharing provider Life Image, and Philips Healthcare are among the early adopters of the Carequality imaging data exchange implementation program.
