Philips Healthcare is providing a telehealth package for hospitals and physicians to remotely screen and monitor patients with suspected COVID-19.
The package, modeled on Philips' Patient Reported Outcomes Management product, begins with a prospective patient filling out an online questionnaire at home so a healthcare professional can determine the person's risk and the appropriate follow-up action. High-risk patients will receive a phone call to gather more information to determine if a physician should provide additional care or send that person to a hospital.
The screening process currently is being used at the Groene Hart Hospital in Gouda, the Netherlands, which is using this application to relieve the enormous pressure currently placed on our healthcare system, according to Dr. Ronald Liem, the hospital's head of surgery.
"Together with general practitioners and the Dutch public health service, we can now focus on the most urgent cases and determine, based on the answers from the surveys, which patients do and which do not need additional care," Liem said.
