Film-digitizer manufacturer Vidar Systems of Herndon, VA, has been acquired by Context Holdings, a Danish firm that makes large-format scanners. Vidar will continue to operate from its Herndon facility, and its products will retain the Vidar brand.
Vidar and Context have competed for years in the large-format scanner segment. With the acquisition, Vidar will concentrate on medical imaging digitizers, while Context will focus on large-format applications. The combined companies will have $50 million in revenues in 2002.
Swedish software developer Yggdrasil previously owned Vidar. Context is owned by EQT, a group of Scandinavian equity funds that focuses on acquiring emerging companies.
