CLEVELAND - Day 2 of the 19th Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology gets off to an early start, with exhibitor presentations kicking off at 7 a.m.
At 8 a.m., it's time for another round of scientific sessions, with concurrent tracks scheduled on archive integration and security, productivity and workflow, and image distribution topics. Attendees interested in the latest Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise developments will be able to take advantage of a morning special session called "IHE: What is it? How do you get it?"
In the late morning, a special session will be presented on how to measure the effect of PACS implementation. This session, chaired by Dr. Richard Morin from the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL, will discuss techniques to measure the effect of implementation of electronic radiology practice, according to SCAR.
SCAR U senior sessions on government initiatives are on tap, highlighted by a special session on biomedical imaging within the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). Presented by acting NIBIB director Donna Dean, Ph.D., the 10:30 a.m. talk will discuss the progress of this new institute within the National Institutes of Health.
SCAR U introductory courses will also be presented on creating an electronic teaching file, productivity changes after PACS implementation, and voice recognition technologies. After a one-hour lunch break and exhibit-hall tours, SCAR U rolls on with senior sessions on digital imaging (CR/DR) and introductory courses on practical security concerns for the filmless imaging practice, networking, and the unique challenges associated with PACS and nonradiology specialties.
In the late afternoon, SCAR U caps off its busiest day at the meeting with senior sessions on electronic storage media and purchasing a PACS. A reception for new SCAR members will be held after the show.
