Dear AuntMinnie Member,
Your imaging facility has just gone filmless with a new PACS network. Now someone has to run the thing. You're the one who's shown the most interest in computer technology, so you're named PACS administrator. Now what?
Life is about to get easier for you and other newly minted PACS administrators thanks to a new PACS administration credentialing program being launched by the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM, formerly SCAR). SIIM's new certified imaging informatics professionals (CIIP) program aims to bring some order to the chaotic world of PACS administration, according to contributing writer Cynthia Keen in an article for our PACS Digital Community.
SIIM sees the CIIP program as a way to create a standardized skill set for PACS administrators that will be useful to both employers and current and future PACS administrators. To achieve CIIP certification, applicants will be required to pass a test covering major elements of PACS administration.
Still at issue is how the CIIP program will coexist with PACS administrator training programs being offered by private firms, as well as another PACS certification program that's already available. You'll find the details by clicking here, or visit our PACS Digital Community at pacs.auntminnie.com.
