Film digitizer vendor Vidar Systems is set to be purchased by printing technology firm 3D Systems as part of a deal in which Vidar parent Contex Group will sell Vidar and its Z Corporation subsidiaries to 3D Systems for $137 million in cash.
In a statement, Vidar Global President Joseph LaPorta said the company expects to continue to deliver its imaging products and expand its core imaging business using 3D's medical technologies. In addition, Vidar expects to develop applications and products that enhance its current offerings, as well as move into more elaborate healthcare initiatives, he said.
The deal is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close by the end of 2011 or early 2012, Vidar said.
