Advanced visualization and analysis software firm Claron Technology has introduced a telementoring system it has developed along with BrainsGate that provides simultaneous display of image-guided surgeries onsite and in a remote location to enable remote surgical guidance.
BrainsGate GuideView TeleSync was designed to address limitations of low operating-room (OR) bandwidth to communicate video remotely over a network as it appears on the local navigational display, according to Claron.
The program runs the same image guidance application on both operating room and remote mentor workstations. Before the mentoring session starts, the TeleSync system synchronizes the two workstations by transmitting all large volumetric imaging data. The system produces video updates of the surgical field and communicates them at a compression level and frequency determined by the available bandwidth in the OR, Claron said.
