In response to comments from delegates to the 2001 conference in London, the 2002 United Kingdom Radiological Congress (UKRC) will be held in Birmingham, U.K. Also, the conference will be held from Sunday, June 9 through Tuesday, June 11, two weeks later in the year than this year's UKRC.
The UKRC debuted in May and was developed by four U.K.-based radiological institutions: the British Institute of Radiology, the Society and College of Radiographers, the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine, and the Royal College of Radiologists. It is the largest exhibition in the U.K., attracting an international audience.
The UKRC chose to change venues because of the inconvenience of Wembley Conference Center, which is difficult to get to from other parts of London, according to Dr. Peter Griffiths, UKRC 2002 president. The Birmingham site is more central and has accommodations, restaurants, and other facilities located nearby
Commentary from attendees prompted the date change as well. There are major conferences in May that caused a conflict for some would-be delegates. In addition, according to Griffiths, it can be difficult for many potential attendees to leave their offices and departments during the week. Meanwhile, starting the conference on Sunday enables attendees to take advantage of lower weekend travel rates.
